Schechter’s special Milestone and grade-level events mark the growth of our students, particularly in regard to their religious development








Kindergarten

Family Shavuot event
Class presentations, family picnic, Israeli dancing, and the presentation to each child of a miniature Torah

Grade 1

Hagigat HaSiddur milestone
Marks Hebrew reading proficiency
Each student receives a prayerbook (Siddur)

Grade 2

Family Journeys presentation
Musical drama integrating the Jewish American experience with Biblical stories

Grade 3

Kabbalat HaTanakh milestone
Marks the start of Bibilical study using the original text
Each student receives a Bible (Tanakh) with a personalized dedication page made by their parents

Grade 4

Melaveh Malkah
Culmination of Shabbat study unit; program includes Havdalah service and class presentations

Grade 5

Shabbaton
Overnight Shabbat experience at local congregation

Shiur B’Nevi’im
Lesson in Prophets - family study
Each student receives copy of Haggadah

Musical Production
A musical journey of American history through song, based on the Grade 5 social studies curriculum

Grade 6

Torah She’b’al Peh milestone
Marks the start of study of Rabbinic literature
Each student receives copy of Pirke Avot

Science Week
Jewish environmental education program at the Teva Learning Center's Shomrei Adamah (Guardians of the Earth) program in the Berkshires

Grade 7

Tu B’Shevat breakfast
Family study program with activities related to trees and the environment

Washington, D.C. trip
Culmination of study of American history/government

Grade 8

Yom Hashoah program
Remembering the Holocaust

Israel Study Tour
Two-week study tour is the culmination of the Schechter educational experience
