New Library Project for Fourth and Fifth Graders
Did you ever wonder where many of the stories you read take place? The fourth and fifth graders are participating in a new library project, "Books Can Take You All Across America." Located on Mrs. Krimsky's desk is a loose leaf book with a page for each state. As children read books, or look through books in the library, they look to see where the story takes place and record the title and author on the page for that particular state.
Many students are enthusiastic about the project. They have begun looking at the inside book pockets for clues or have spent time browsing through books. Some students are surfing the Internet for book summaries or investigating the names of towns to see if they can find the state where the town is located. Others checked the Internet and looked up states that had no listings.
Sixth, seventh and eighth graders are invited to join and record their findings. Parents may want to give their children suggestions. So far, every state has a listing.
