Afterschool Enrichment complements the Schechter curriculum with a wide array of workshops and classes in the arts, science and technology, sports, music and more. Children gain self-confidence as they acquire new skills and participate in learning experiences that are important to them. In Afterschool Enrichment, each student chooses his/her focus and embarks on a voyage of joyous exploration and discovery.
Parents appreciate the convenience. From piano lessons to dance, from science to karate, it’s all here at Schechter's afterschool.
Classes are held from 3-4 p.m. at the Lower School and 3:15-4:15 p.m. at the Upper School, unless otherwise noted in the brochure. There are three semesters of classes – Fall, Winter and Spring.
Spring 2017 Enrichment Class Information
Learn to play the trumpet. Work with a vocal coach. Be part of a rock band.
The Afterschool Music Studio offers opportunities for children to be immersed in all aspects of the world of music. We offer private lessons in piano, flute, guitar, saxophone, cello, drums, trumpet, violin, and voice at each campus. Band for grades 4-8 is offered at the Upper School. Our teachers are trained musicians, graduates of prestigious music colleges, and experienced teachers. Students can also play in ensembles, where they develop improvisational and reading skills, with a focus on all aspects of music performance. Ensemble class repertoire is driven by the specific interests of the students involved. End of year recitals and student CDs highlight the children’s accomplishments.
Whether your child is an experienced performer or has never played before an audience, he or she can benefit from participating in the Afterschool Music Studio. The focus is on each child and what each can communicate through music.
Athletes & Junior Athletes
Sports are for everyone! We encourage all Schechter students to enjoy and participate in “the game.” Afterschool Athletics offers a variety of competitive and non-competitive sports so children can try their hand (or feet!) at something new or strengthen their game skills. Sports classes include: flag football, karate, lacrosse, baseball/softball, tennis, basketball, hockey, soccer, fitness and rollerblading.
Working in conjunction with Schechter’s Athletic Director, Afterschool Athletics has designed a sports program that offers serious preparation for students in grades 4-6 who are interested in continuing to play for junior high and high school teams. Students have the opportunity to work on skills as they play an intramural season.
Older students can participate in the school’s inter-scholastic sports program, which offers seasonal team sports for boys and girls in soccer, basketball, and baseball/softball. Varsity and Junior Varsity squads compete against other independent schools. For more information, contact Afterschool Director Penina Magid.
