Paint. Perform. Produce. Repeat.

At Schechter, creativity is at the heart of learning. With dedicated art and music studios and passionate specialist teachers, students paint, play, sing, sculpt and express themselves every day.

Art and music are woven into every part of learning at Schechter—from Torah projects and holiday celebrations to science explorations. Whether designing Hebrew calligraphy or building Purim play props, students use their creative voices across the curriculum. They don’t just make art—they make it their own. And yes, there’s plenty of glitter.

Visual Arts

A studio-based art program in which students explore and experiment with a wide variety of techniques and mediums, including drawing, painting, sculpting, collage, printmaking and more. Students learn to appreciate art as they view and discuss works by artists, past and present, and share their work with classmates and the broader school community.

Theatre Arts

Theater at Schechter invites students to step into story from day one. Kindergarteners begin with imaginative play and simple dramatizations; by Grades 4–8, they’re honing voice, movement, and scene work. Along the way, students explore improvisation, playwriting, lighting, sound, and stage management—discovering both the thrill of the spotlight and the craft behind the curtain. Each stage is carefully tailored to their development, building confidence, collaboration, and a lasting love of the stage.

Music

Our younger students sing and play rhythm instruments, learning the fundamental elements of music theory through the music-making process. As they get older, students begin to focus more on the mechanics and theory of making music through their study of American genres, Western Classical music and World Music. They apply this understanding as they take on more sophisticated production and composition projects, incorporating new skills in music technology.

Studio Band

Band at Schechter is performance-driven and student-led. Musicians choose repertoire, shape arrangements, and learn to blend their individual sound into a polished ensemble—sharpening listening, balance, and rhythmic precision along the way.

For newcomers, our Grades 4–5 Studio Band builds instrumental fundamentals and the basics of playing in a group, paving the way to join the full ensembles.

Film Making

Through workshops and classes that teach storytelling, scriptwriting, editing, and other technical skills, our students become the creators, directors, producers, and actors for their own short-film projects. Film classes are offered through our afterschool enrichment and middle school elective programs.
