Support Services
Academic, emotional, and executive functioning support—from early childhood through Grade 8
Support That Sees the Whole Child
Our approach is to ensure that all students at Schechter are able to access the Schechter curriculum, and receive individualized instruction that they require. Learning Specialists work with individuals and small groups to develop skills, and also push into the classrooms to provide more general curriculum support. In 6th through 8th grade, students have access to the Learning Center, where they receive tailored academic and executive functioning support. Learning Specialists collaborate with teachers to help modify and differentiate instruction.
All students who require personalized instruction or accommodations have a documented Learning Plan to ensure that they receive exactly what they need throughout their day. Each student with a Learning Plan has a liaison assigned to oversee the support needs and to act as a point of contact to the family.
Support Staff
Schechter employs a team of Learning Specialists to meet the academic needs of students. Our Learning Specialists come to Schechter with a wealth of special education experience - both in public and private settings - and training in many different academic and executive functioning programs. We also have Learning Specialists in both buildings who are trained in a variety of literacy interventions. Schechter Boston also has Hebrew Learning Specialists at both campuses, who provide foundational instruction and remedial Hebrew support.
Counseling
Counselors on both campuses help students navigate challenges, build coping skills, and grow socially and emotionally. Through individual check-ins, small groups, and collaboration with teachers, our counseling team ensures students feel seen, supported, and resilient.
Related Services
At Schechter we believe that it takes a village to support a child, especially our students with diverse needs. We work hand-in-hand with service providers from Gateways, a local organization, to provide occupational therapy and speech-language services to our students. Gateways also employs a behavioral specialist, who consults with Schechter staff to meet the needs of all students.
Students who have an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) through their local public school may be able to access federal special education funding to pay for related services written into IEPs. Gateways providers are also available to observe students if there are specific concerns related to occupational therapy, speech, or other behavioral concerns. Our team is available to help you navigate the evaluation process, whether through the public school system or privately, and to help you access services if your child is eligible.
