School Custodian (Immediate Opening)

Schechter Boston is looking for a dedicated Custodian to join our team. The Custodian will be responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment that supports students, faculty, staff, and visitors. This position performs daily cleaning, sanitation, and basic maintenance tasks throughout classrooms, offices, common areas, and outdoor spaces, ensuring the school facilities meet health, safety, and cleanliness standards. The Custodian plays an important role in supporting the school’s mission by helping create a respectful and well-maintained environment conducive to learning and community life.

Key Responsibilities

  • Clean and maintain classrooms, offices, hallways, restrooms, cafeteria, and common areas

  • Clean and sanitize surfaces according to established schedules

  • Set up and break down rooms for school events and programs

  • Assist with trash and recycling removal

  • Monitor building conditions and report maintenance or safety concerns

  • Support seasonal tasks such as snow removal, light groundskeeping, or summer cleaning

  • Follow all school safety, health, and security procedures

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required

  • Prior custodial or facilities experience preferred

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including phone, email, and text

  • Ability to follow instructions accurately and work to resolve routine issues

  • Comfortable and knowledgeable in the safe use of cleaning equipment, power tools, and hand tools

  • Reliability, punctuality, and a positive attitude

  • Physically able to stand, walk, bend frequently, and lift up to 75 pounds

  • Reliable transportation required; must be able to pass a background check

  • Valid MA Drivers License

Compensation & Benefits

  • 40 hours per week with opportunity for frequent overtime.

  • Competitive pay $21-$27 per hour; commensurate with experience.
